Long known as a hotel that catered to visiting executives doing business in Hamilton, Bermuda or for hosting conventions and meetings, the hotel has become a destination for people on holiday or those seeking a perfect weekend getaway. The hotel, which now ranks among the most luxurious hotels on the island, has been elevated to resort status. It is arguably the crown jewel of the island.
There are plenty of activities to take advantage of at the hotel. There is a stunning infinity edge pool with uninterrupted views of Hamilton Harbour, a new poolside pergola for outdoor fitness classes and activities and the Pool Bar which offers cocktails, craft beers and food. The hotel’s concierge can arrange for a golf excursion, as Bermuda has more golf courses per capita than anywhere else in the world. Guests have access to tennis courts located at the Princess Beach Club where a pro is available for lessons.
Another fun and unique activity to do while staying at the hotel is to rent a Twizy, a safe, comfortable and fun way to see the island. With the stability of four wheels, foot pedals for braking and accelerating and a steering wheel, the Twizy is electric and operates like a car.
The property’s Exhale Spa offers a full-service menu of treatments, from facials to massages, with expertly-trained therapists. Guests of the spa (and hotel guests over the age of 18) can relax or do laps in the adjacent adult-only pool that offers stunning views of the marina. There is also a state-of-the-art fitness facility that is outfitted with a complete selection of equipment by TechnoGym.
As the hotel is centrally-located, it is only a five-minute walk to shops, restaurants and nightlife in downtown Hamilton.
Dining is exceptional, as well, as the hotel has several restaurants, including its latest addition, Marcus’, which features a theatrical open kitchen and the cuisine of Marcus Samuelsson, the world-renowned chef behind New York’s acclaimed Red Rooster. Featuring beautiful ocean views, the restaurant offers such classic Samuelsson cuisine as Fish Chowder Bites, Crispy Buttermilk Cauliflower, Fried Yard Bird and Sinky Bay Snapper.
A second dining destination at the hotel is the 1609 Restaurant, which offers uninterrupted spectacular harbor views. 1609 specializes in fresh-off-the-boat seafood such as ceviche, fresh fish and salads. It is also a great place to enjoy classic Bermuda specialties such as a Rum Swizzle or a Dark & Stormy.
The hotel’s Princess Marina is Bermuda’s first and only full-service hotel marina with world-class amenities for vessels of all sizes. The 60-berth marina is ideal for pleasure crafts and tournament fishing boats from 30 to 75 feet all the way up to super yachts of 500 feet. The marina offers integrated pump-out facilities, custom-metered electric service, and water distribution, as well as such high-end services as a dedicated marina concierge, gourmet onsite catering, high speed internet access and cable tv.
The Princess Marina’s water sports facility offers hotel guests a wide range of activities and excursions, including deep sea fishing trips, private boat charters, and Boston whaler boat rentals. The hotel can also arrange for Jet Ski tours, kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling.
Purchased by the Green family, a Bermudan family, in 2012, the hotel now houses the Green’s extensive and impressive contemporary art collection with pieces by such renowned artists as Andy Warhol, Banksy, Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami, KAWS, Julian Opie, Yayoi Kusama and Ai Wei Wei, among many others. The collection, which includes hundreds of pieces, is museum-quality and guests can spend hours roaming the hotel’s common spaces admiring the collection. The hotel offers guided tours of the collection on a scheduled basis.
AÂ 90-minute flight to Bermuda’s International Airport from New York and Boston, the resort is easy to get to. You can leave your home in the morning and be at the resort in time for lunch. In fact, it is possible to fly to Bermuda in less time than it takes to drive to the Hamptons from Manhattan on a Friday during the summer months.
