The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department will offer a free clinic, “Introduction to Smelting,” on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Waterbury Reservoir as part of the Let’s Go Fishing program.
Smelt are small, slender schooling fish found in Vermont’s deeper and colder lakes. Ice fishing is the only way to consistently catch rainbow smelt in Vermont. Equipment will be provided. Participants should dress for the weather and bring their own snacks or meals.
The clinic is open to all ages and levels of experience, including people completely new to fishing. Topics will cover fishing regulations and techniques, fish identification, ice safety, and more.
Directions to the meeting spot will be given upon registering. Space is limited to the first 30 signups: 265-2279 or email@example.com.
