Fishing With Your Piers-Texas Parks & Wildlife [Official]

IF YOU ARE ANYWHERE CLOSE TO THE TEXAS COAST YOU ARE LIKELY NOT FAR FROM A FISHING PIER Pier fishing is very accessible and very easy

You got one? AND WHETHER YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED OR AN ASPIRING ANGLER, A SEA OF FISHING OPPORTUNITY AWAITS Everybody is equal on that pier Everybody's got the equal chance to catch the fish A fish! (laughter) (Zydeco music) VICTOR FONTENOT AND HIS FRIEND DARRELL BEAN HAVE COME TO GALVESTON FROM HOUSTON TO CATCH REDFISH Hardhead! OR AT LEAST SOMETHING OTHER THAN HARDHEAD CATFISH

Thought I had something decent I just like being out here, it's just nice to get outdoors This is the place to be Hope I catch something like that again Now what is this? Looks like a little different one

CRAIG WEEKS AND HIS SON DAN ARE VISITING FROM ILLINOIS, He's looking at you LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER FOLKS OUT TODAY, THEY'RE NEW TO SALTWATER FISHING Awww, it took all my bait AND THAT MEANS THE PIER IS A GOOD PLACE TO BE This guy caught two at the same time, look! It's a great way to start

There's piers up and down the coast that will rent fishing equipment to you Talk to the folks on the pier about what's biting and how to catch it, and you'll be under way in about five minutes Alright Dan Let's, yeah Whoops! I'm a total novice at fishing as is Daniel

Everybody's been helping us out a lot, and helping identify the fish, and getting off the hook, and just explaining everything, too Yellow tail and silver perch? That's a neat looking fish THIS FATHER AND SON DON'T TAKE ANY FISH HOME, BUT THEY DO TAKE BACK SOME STORIES When he caught it he says "Dad it's a shark, its a shark!' And I still didn't believe him He had said he wanted to catch a shark, I didn't think there was a chance in the world that he would

I just couldn't believe it Touch him Just so exciting Very awesome! MEANWHILE, VICTOR HAS SOME SUCCESS THERE IS SOMETHING BIG ON HIS LINE, AND HE HOPES IT'S A REDFISH

Yeah, he's running with it See if I let him wear himself on out Darrell, go ask them people if they have a net If I get him in it'll make it all worthwhile (laughing) AFTER A LONG FIGHT, AND WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM HIS FRIEND

Got it Thank you Lord! VICTOR BRINGS IN HIS CATCH Wooo, that's a big one

That's a nice one now IT'S AN ALMOST THREE FOOT LONG BULL RED Thirty-five? Thirty five A SALTWATER FISHING LICENSE INCLUDES A TAG TO KEEP JUST ONE OF THESE FISH PER YEAR Got to put this tag around his tail VICTOR HAS HIS Need a camera now, to show the fellas NEARBY, ON GALVESTON BAY, OTIS RAY HAS HAD A WINDY AND UNEVENTFUL AFTERNOON

BUT A SEASONED FISHERMAN KNOW PERSISTENCE USUALLY PAYS OFF OHHH! This looks like a good one That looks like a keeper IN AN INSTANT, THE SPOTTED SEA TROUT HAVE TURNED ON Sometimes you hit em and sometimes you don't

It's real nice We appreciate that This looks like it's sixteen and a half inches In the state of Texas you can take it home AND WHERE THERE'S ONE FISH

Sixteen and a half THERE ARE OFTEN MORE Seventeen and a half

AND MORE We have another eighteen incher Not a bad day Not a bad day at all Pier fishing is the way to go

It's relaxing, inexpensive That's the best part For seven, eight dollars you spend twenty four hours fishing If you can stand it You can catch all different kinds of fish, red drum, sheephead, flounder What is this? Red fish? I don't know Feels like a big one

That's a drum Drum Oh yeah Let's get the net, if you don't mind WHILE THE GREATEST VARIETY OF GULF AND BAYSIDE PIERS MAY BE FOUND AROUND HOUSTON AND GALVESTON, THERE IS PLENTY OF PIER FISHING ALL ALONG THE COAST

Yeah! Looky there THOUGH THE SERVICES OR CATCH-OF-THE-DAY MAY VARY This is my first fish that I catch, in my life

A FEW THINGS DON'T It seems to be a very relaxed atmosphere

Everybody just mingle and talk, and just have fun you know I appreciate it Everybody, works as a team Kind of a pier review even (laughs) Everybody's got stories

Some of them are even true (polka music) I haven't caught a big fish like these guys The biggest fish I've caught off a pier was(laughs) Massive, it was massive Six and a half foot hammerhead The biggest one I've caught was a six, eleven black tip About this big Oh, about a fifty-two inch red fish

Right here, tiger shark Caught him out that way (laughs) An eight-foot, three tiger shark off of this pier No fish stories here I swear

My witnesses are all right here NORTH OF CORPUS CHRISTI NEAR ROCKPORT, THE PIER AT GOOSE ISLAND STATE PARK HAS LONG BEEN A FAVORITE SPOT TO FISH ARANSAS BAY FOR MANY, FISHING HERE IS A FAMILY TRADITION Ever since I've been a little kid been coming out here We come down here for a little relaxation

One of these days we might get lucky and catch a fish! (laughing) (fish splashing) Flounder He caught a flounder IT SEEMS THOSE WHO SPEND THE MOST TIME PIER FISHING, CAN HAVE FUN EVEN WITHOUT THE FISH At least I've caught a fish now Even if we didn't catch the flounder we still had a good time

It's nice to prove to the wives that we did go fishing I've only fished in the ocean once ON ANY GIVEN DAY It's been a long time since I've been fishing ALL ALONG THE TEXAS COAST, THERE ARE FOLKS ENJOYING FISHING PIERS Except for that part that we haven't caught any fish A little black tip THE FISHING MAY BE FAST PACED

We've been catching a whole bunch of these this sizeOR THE FISHING MAY BE SLOW (boy sighs) BUT EVEN THEN, THERE'S GOOD REASON TO BE ON A PIER

Just to relax and just enjoy the view MAYBE WE ALL NEED A PLACE TO DO THAT NOW AND THEN Fishing is not just about catching fish It's more like an art than a science, and like art, everybody appreciates it in a different way It's relaxing

It's just beautiful out here Fishing is about being out here, on the water, meeting folks, attempting to catch a fish But if we don't catch a fish, it don't matter'cause we went fishing
